WELCOME TO ADA2000.ORG

With President Bill Clinton

Here is a worthy cause you will be proud to support. Our Association and this online community is open to individuals with disabilities and others who may identify with the advocacy of equal rights for everyone: whether disabled or not. Join our cause now and make things happen.

We are the ASSOCIATION FOR DISABLED AMERICANS, a non-profit advocacy group recognized nation-wide as one of the most powerful and active advocates for compliance with the “Americans with Disability Act.”

Who We Are

us2

We are a nonprofit association with a fulltime staff that, since mid 1995, has joined forces with local community leaders, lawyers, government agencies, and individuals with disabilities to advocate and enforce the “Americans With Disabilities Act”, also known as the ADA laws.

We, the members of the Association for Disabled Americans, take our mission very seriously and will continue our relentless struggle until the rights of individuals with disabilities are acknowledged, respected and accepted throughout the world.

What We Do

ada1

We help many individuals with disabilities whose legal rights have been violated. We speak out and lobby on their behalf; we educate, and we litigate when necessary to enforce ADA compliance. We have successfully helped many individuals with a disability and those associated with such individuals.

Currently we are making preparations to widen the scope of our services: provide expanded ADA training and workshops, offer consultation services for local merchants, and more.

We Can Help You

court2

There are many competent attorneys who support our cause and have accepted the cases we have submitted. In doing so, the Association has successfully obtained justice in our federal courts. This justice has been in the form of enforced architectural barrier removal, and in many instances, reasonable compensation for many members. We are here to help any individual with a disability and those associated with such an individual.

If your rights as a person with a disability have been violated, and/or if you have been subjected to undue inconvenience and grief as a result of an entity’s non-compliance with ADA laws, please use this site to REGISTER A COMPLAINT, and we will meet with you to discuss the matter, and if necessary, utilize our legal resources to remedy the wrongdoing. At absolutely no cost to our members. We are a caring and compassionate association.

You’re Not Alone

socialweb2

There are many people who believe strongly in enforcing ADA laws to make society more inclusive, absent all discrimination.

We are here for you, so you are not alone in the fight for equality in society.

Individuals with disabilities, their friends and relatives, neighborhood leaders, politicians, merchants, and plain nice folks, share in our cause, and have joined our cause by getting involved. This is why this site is also an online social community where all can get involved, meet each other, develop friendships, make important connections, while, furthering the goal of removing barriers to access for all.

Our Own Community

We encourage you, whether disabled or not, to join our online social community (it’s free) and take an active part in discusssions via our FORUMS, share your interests, chat and communicate with other members, and stay informed with news and announcements of the association.

Good intension vs Bad Idea

kids

I see this more and more these days and I’m not sure what to make of this “trend.” I know how I feel about it, but sometimes my “feelings” shouldn’t matter and this is why I’m writing this blog.

I understand many of the moral reasons why individuals would go out of their way to segregate themselves, or a group for that matter, thinking they are creating a positive environment for their children, when in fact they may be doing something much worse.

Squeeky Wheel Gets The Oil

cartoon1

Those are my mother’s words from as far back as I could remember: “Squeaky wheel gets the oil,” she would say. Those words have echoed in my head ever since I can remember. With three brothers in the family, it was a concept we became familiar with since a very young age. But not until recently have I needed to apply her words of wisdom on a much grander scale.

What I mean is (to get to the meat of the bone), as the years have gone by and many lessons learned sometimes the hard way, and other times the even harder way, the tears and sweat that have gone into fighting for the rights of individuals with disabilities, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, should have maintained momentum with TODAY’s individuals with disabilities, but it has not. The wheels have become squeaky.

“Gizmo” May Make Wheelchairs Obsolete?

dannywalker

New claim that will make claims of wheelchairs becoming obsolete, obsolete! I think most of us have seen outrageous claims by companies claiming they found/discovered/invented a “new” contraption that will make wheelchairs obsolete.

For individuals using wheelchairs as part of their everyday life as a means of “critical transportation” we, know all too well that these claims are just “head-lines” to get the attention of the not-so-expearnace wheelchair user.

I am Proud to be disabled!

dannybridge

I find myself writing about something that has become, or I should say is becoming, “okay” to exclaim: “I am proud to be disabled!”

You may wonder about my statement, which is the header and motto for this blog.

Proud to be disabled? For many years it has been viewed as negative or even tragic to be disabled. But as a part of the “BabyWheelBoomers” trend — spinal cord injured individuals such as myself who broke barriers from rehab and going forward –I’ve seen the disabled rise above common perceptions to become a powerful community.

When I was first injured, I was told many things that ended up being inaccurate in my life, but I’m not going to get into the whole “ignorance” thing; it was just the way it was back in the early 80s. Today, however, I have two wonderful daughters, and that’s something to be proud of.

New! ClickPicFix Quiz to better inform you

clickpicfix

We started a new series to inform you on better accessibility. According to the 2010 Injury Facts of the National Safety Council, 490 Americans become disabled every 10 minutes.

Then Daniel Ruiz, President of the Association will discuss issues related to the accessibility in the scenarion. It will be a fun and informative game that has already become very popular on our FaceBook page.

2) Ramp is to steep (Ratios is; One (1) foot of ramp for every inch” (1”) of rise.)
3) Entrance at ramp is to narrow. (36” inches req…uired, minimal)
4) “Accessible path/entrance has no signage.
5) Table at the top of ramp is blocking the path of access.

WHY I DO WHAT I DO

Daniel Ruiz

I’m sometimes asked why I do what I do. (Why do I confront “barriers” and negative stereotypes?)

The answer is not simple enough to express with words, however I’ll do my best.

My reasons coincide with man/woman wanting to get from point A to point B faster, more efficiently, and with greater comfort. My motivation is along the same lines as possibly what drove man/woman to want to reach the moon; not because he had to, it’s because he wanted to
